There are a lot of activities and this is the busiest time for the McNeil Cheerleaders. Some of the activities include:
DOOR DECORATING CONTEST
During homecoming week, teachers and students participate in a door decorating contest. Classroom doors showcase different designs to show their school spirit. For example, the seniors could put together a score board that had Mavericks 2015 (their graduation year) and our opponent the Dragons 0. The classroom door with the most votes, wins. It’s a really simple activity, that gets the student body involved.
The week before Homecoming we have Spirit Week, where we have different dress-up days. For example, camo day, twin day, 80’s day, school colors day, and even favorite sports team day! It was really funny to see the people who go ALL OUT.
For those of you not native to Texas, there is a tradition of wearing elaborate, floral pins to classes on Homecoming Day and displayed at the Homecoming Game. These pins — some bigger than a dinner plate and covered in artificial flowers, ribbons, and even stuffed animals — are known as mums. The cheerleaders have a mum exchange at a special breakfast the morning of the Homecoming game.
